Consider...
So we are doing the “James” Beth Moore study right now and today was about James 1:2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
These are some good things Beth brought...
weekend update
Friday night I convinced David to let me take him on a date, so since he likes to cook, and at one point wanted to be a chef, I bought a groupon for cooking classes. It was kinda awesome. There were 2 other couples there and 2 chefs and we made 2 types of bruchetta, stuffed chicken, orzo pasta, pork tenderloin, and bananas foster. Kinda ridiculous and all delicious!
Saturday, David went with me...

Life has not slowed down I do not believe. This past weekend was dinner with David and my rents, country dancing, friends bday gathering and getting to meet some more of David’s family.
This coming weekend will be the annual mom’s side super late Christmas weekend. Which will consist of 30ish people at my parents house, crockpot christmas dishes, loads of good food and such. Will be...

Christmas update
So, this past weekend for Christmas I got Friday and Monday off, which was very nice. So…re-cap:
Thursday night, David took me to see A Christmas Carol downtown…it was awesome!!! I’ve never seen just a play before. I’ve seen musical’s, but never a Play. So it was great to do something new, and fun to get dressed up and be surprised once we got down there.

Beth Moore excerpt on Pride
My name is Pride. I am a cheater.
I cheat you of your God-given destiny…because you demand your own way.
I cheat you of contentment…because you “deserve better than this.”
I cheat you of knowledge…because you already know it all.
I cheat you of healing…because you refuse to admit when you’re wrong.
I cheat you of vision…because you’d...

God writes our new name only on those places in our lives where He has erased our pride, self-sufficiency, and self-interest. Some of us have our new name written only in certain spots, like spiritual measles. And in those areas of our lives we look all right. When we are in our best spiritual mood, you would think we were the highest quality saints. But don’t dare look at us when we are not...

Thanksgiving
What is it about thanksgiving week that in your head you think it is going to be full of lazy/restful days and instead you end up packing every hour of every day? Don’t get me wrong..it was good, just busy. So here is the play by play!
Wednesday after work I went and played soccer with some church folks…we had a great turn out and the weather was awesome! Then we went out to eat and...
“The modern day gospel says, ‘God loves you & has a wonderful plan for your life. Therefore, follow these steps, & you can be saved.’ Meanwhile, the biblical gospel says, ‘You are an enemy of God, dead in your sin, & in your present state of rebellion, you are not even able to see that you need life, much less to cause yourself to come to life. Therefore, you...
come on cold weather...
I truly just want the weather to get cold and be consistent. I think the weather has gone from the 50’s to 90’s back and forth forever! Last week the cold front brought on my bi-annual crud with it. So last friday night was spent in my apartment eating soup that my awesome new roomate, Taylor, went and picked up for me and my friend Katie as we watched Singing in the Rain and I blew my...
You Won’t Reach It On Tiptoe
“Add to your brotherliness … love.” 2 Peter 1:7
Love is indefinite to most of us, we do not know what we mean when we talk about love. Love is the sovereign preference of one person for another, and spiritually Jesus demands that that preference be for Himself (cf. Luke 14:26). When the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, Jesus...
“If Jesus gave us a command he could not enable us to fulfill, He would be a liar; and if we make our inability a barrier to obedience, it means we are telling God there is something He has not taken into account. Every element of self-reliance must be slain by the power of God. Complete weakness and dependence will always be the occasion for the Spirit of God to manifest His...

The Last year
I was just thinking about this time last year and thinking about everything that has happened in the past year, and everything the Lord has been teaching me and wondering if/how I am different. Has my walk deepened with the Lord? What are the things I have learned? Have those things just been knowledge or have they become fleshed out as wisdom? Just a thought, and I KNOW the Lord has been doing...

So….tuesday night after my bible study with my women’s group…i got sick. Lame. I haven’t thrown up in 10 years..so being suddenly reminded of what that feels like made me that much more certain I do not enjoy it. Therefore I did not go to work Wednesday. My mom ended up coming over (she is retired afterall) and nursed me back to health. I am not ashamed of that at all btw....
This past weekend was great.
Friday night it was my mom’s b-day so we went out to eat at Pallottas Italian Grill…best minestrone soup EVER!!! My aunt and Uncle were with us too. After dinner I introduced them all to Berripop…a frozen yogurt place in the Woodlands. Then my parents and I finished the night off by watching TANGLED…yes i know…hilarious. But it was a good...
So this past weekend was pretty chill. Friday, I got to go see one of my junior high girls sing in a show choir concert. It was an ode to the beatles…and it was great! Caroline had a solo where everyone else kneeled down and she was front and center with a belt out part…it was awesome! I was utterly impressed with how much these kids had to memorize with the songs and the...
“To see the Storyteller we need to slow down our interior life and watch. We need to be embedded in the Word to experience the storyteller’s mind and pick up the cadence of his voice. We need to be alert for the story, for the Storyteller’s voice speaking into the details of our lives. The story God weaves is neither weird nor floaty. It always involves bowing before his majesty...

So this past weekend was busy but good.
Friday night I went to see The Lion King with laney and Katie…it was in 3D! I’m pretty sure we were the only ones there that were not with children…and we sang along to every song…I mean…why wouldn’t we?

– Paul Miller, A Praying Life
“We are not so intimately acquainted with God as Jesus was, and as He wants us to be—‘that they may be one even as we are one’. Think of the last thing you prayed about—were you devoted to your desire or to God? Determined to get some gift of the Spirit or to get at God? ‘Your Heavenly Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him’. The...
Praying In Jesus' Name
“Imagine that your prayer is a poorly dressed beggar reeking of alcohol and body odor, stumbling toward the palace of the great king. You have become your prayer. As you shuffle toward the barred gate, the guards stiffen. Your smell has preceded you. You stammer out a message for the great king: ‘I want to see the king.’ Your words are barely intelligible, but you whisper one...
Abandonment
So I was reminded today of a day I had working at camp last summer. I remember praying one morning in particular that the Lord teach me something new through the kids at the camp. Shortly after that, literally either the same day or the day afterwards…I was walking down this trail by myself and I here a little girl yelling “Allison!, Allison!”. I turn around and she is sprinting...
Weekend of Labor...er no Labor
So this 3 day weekend was great and jam packed. Here is the play by play…just in case you’ve lost sleep over wanting to know every detail of my life…
Friday Night—had dinner with my new friend Laurie that is in my church home group. Such a cool and genuine girl, we talked for a long time just exchanging life stories and whatnot.
Saturday—-I painted my new room!!!!...
New book
So….I might have a new favorite book of the moment. I put a quote up a couple days ago…but its called “A Praying Life” by Paul Miller. um….yeah…its really good. The chapter’s I’m in right now are about cynicism and its affect on our souls and prayer life. Some good quotes thus far:
Cynicism is the air we breathe, and it is suffocating our hearts.

Broken, Beaten, Laying in my own blood
I know the title of this is kinda extreme…but I couldn’t help myself. So yesterday at my new church, The Woodlands Point, the sermon was on The Good Samaritan. I feel like if you have been to church 5 times in your life…you’ve probably heard a sermon on this parable. A Jewish man is robbed and beaten and left for dead on the side of a road, and the very people you would...
Ok first of all. My cubicle has a huge window that takes up the whole right side of my desk…and randomly birds will fly straight into it. Its HILARIOUS! It startles me every time cause its this HUGE THUD…and then I laugh out loud. I just mention this because it just happened again and I heard one of my co-workers say “another bird bites the dust” lol. Love it.
Anyways,...

This past weekend I kept pretty busy. Friday right after work I had some fro yo with one of my J.H. girls Megan, then went to dinner and a movie with my friend Laney…we saw captain America! It was pretty good…kinda cheesy…but entertaining nonetheless. if you go see it, make sure to stick around after the credits;-)

WoRdS
So…my very wise co-worker Brenda said something recently that I really liked in regards to joking…
“In regards to the Fruits of the Spirit, specifically Self-Control… there are different signs of self-indulgence, one being an inappropriate sense of humor..meaning jokes motivated by a lack of respect and at the expense of others. God loves laughter like in Prov. 17:22 it...
Silver Lining
So I was driving to work this morning and looking at the sky…of course that was interspersed with watching the road…but I was admiring the beauty and grandeur of the sky and clouds that always look different every morning. Isn’t that AMAZING?! EVERY morning…the sky is different…the colors, the clouds, the way the light shoots through the clouds…since the...
